Tóm tắt

Abstract Peripheral cataracts in 12 workers with long‐term occupational trinitrotoluene exposure were studied in a follow‐up period of 5 years. The exposure was considered low and the measured concentration of trinitrotoluene in the breathing zone was maximally 0.3 mg/m3, which is below the current Finnish threshold limit value. Peripheral ringlike lens opacities were found in all workers, but during the follow‐up time progression was none or minimal. The peripheral opacities were best seen and cocumented with lateral gaze. The severity of peripheral opacities correleted with exposure times. The opacities were irreversible in subjects without exposure for 5 years, but did not affect visual acuity.
