Phản ứng hành vi, được xác định từ dữ liệu số lượng bẫy thu được tại hiện trường, cho thấy mỗi loài bị thu hút với số lượng lớn nhất bởi hỗn hợp feromon do các loài cùng loại sản xuất. Giữa các loài, D. frontalis không hiển thị sự thu hút chéo đối với các hỗn hợp feromon của Ips, nhưng bị thu hút yếu đối với hỗn hợp feromon của con cái D. terebrans. Ba loài Ips cho thấy các mức độ thu hút chéo khác nhau cũng như đối với các hỗn hợp feromon của Dendroctonus. Cụ thể hơn, I. calligraphus bị thu hút bởi I. avulsus và, trong một mức độ rất hạn chế, cũng bị thu hút bởi hỗn hợp feromon của con đực D. terebrans.
