Nguồn dữ liệu: Các cơ sở dữ liệu của CINAHL, PubMed, PsycINFO, Thư viện Cochrane và Embase đã được tìm kiếm. Các tìm kiếm bổ sung về cơ sở dữ liệu văn liệu xám, các sách giáo khoa quan trọng, chính sách chăm sóc giảm nhẹ quốc gia và các trang web của tổ chức bệnh mãn tính và chăm sóc giảm nhẹ cũng đã được thực hiện. Kết luận: Các đặc điểm thiết yếu của chăm sóc giảm nhẹ không chuyên đã được xác định nhưng nhìn chung vẫn chưa được đo lường và hiểu rõ trong thực tiễn. Khái niệm này có mối liên hệ mạnh mẽ với chất lượng cuộc sống, toàn diện và chăm sóc lấy bệnh nhân làm trung tâm, và có sự mờ nhạt về vai trò và ranh giới đặc biệt là với chăm sóc giảm nhẹ chuyên biệt. Chăm sóc giảm nhẹ không chuyên còn thiếu tính chín muồi về khái niệm, đặt ra thách thức cho các chuyên gia chăm sóc sức khỏe về cách thức chăm sóc lâm sàng này có thể được lên kế hoạch, thực hiện và đánh giá.
