Phẫu thuật vẫn là lựa chọn duy nhất để chữa trị ung thư tụy. Mặc dù việc sử dụng nội soi trong ung thư học đang gia tăng nhanh chóng trên toàn thế giới, hiệu quả của nó trong phẫu thuật tụy vẫn còn gây tranh cãi. Nhiều nghiên cứu đã so sánh kết quả của các phương pháp cắt tụy xâm lấn tối thiểu và truyền thống. Tuy nhiên, hầu hết chúng đều là các nghiên cứu không ngẫu nhiên, bao gồm những nhóm bệnh nhân tương đối nhỏ. Ngoài ra, hầu hết các nghiên cứu này được thực hiện tại các trung tâm phẫu thuật tụy có khối lượng ca bệnh cao. Có vẻ như, mặc dù thời gian phẫu thuật dài hơn, nhưng phương pháp nội soi có thể mang lại lợi ích về mặt tỷ lệ biến chứng, lượng máu mất đi và thời gian nằm viện. Đến nay, rất ít thông tin được biết đến về kết quả lâu dài của phẫu thuật nội soi cho bệnh ung thư tụy. Mục tiêu của chúng tôi là xem xét các bằng chứng hiện có về việc sử dụng các kỹ thuật xâm lấn tối thiểu cho bệnh nhân bị ung thư tụy.
