Mục tiêu.  Bài báo này xem xét các tài liệu nghiên cứu chính về hành vi tìm kiếm sự giúp đỡ liên quan đến sức khỏe của nam giới.

Đặt vấn đề.  Có một khối lượng ngày càng tăng các nghiên cứu ở Hoa Kỳ cho thấy nam giới ít có khả năng tìm kiếm sự giúp đỡ từ các chuyên gia sức khỏe hơn phụ nữ cho các vấn đề đa dạng như trầm cảm, lạm dụng chất, khuyết tật thể chất và các sự kiện căng thẳng trong cuộc sống. Các nghiên cứu trước đây đã chỉ ra rằng vấn đề sức khỏe chính mà nam giới ở Vương quốc Anh phải đối mặt là sự do dự khi tìm kiếm sự tiếp cận các dịch vụ sức khỏe.

Phương pháp.  Việc điều tra hành vi tìm kiếm sự giúp đỡ liên quan đến sức khỏe của nam giới có tiềm năng lớn để cải thiện cả cuộc sống của nam giới và phụ nữ, cũng như giảm chi phí y tế quốc gia thông qua việc phát triển các can thiệp nhạy bén và hiệu quả. Một cuộc tìm kiếm tài liệu đã được thực hiện sử dụng các cơ sở dữ liệu CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsychINFO và Thư viện Cochrane.

Kết quả.  Các nghiên cứu so sánh nam và nữ chưa đủ để giải thích các quy trình liên quan đến hành vi tìm kiếm sự giúp đỡ của nam giới. Tuy nhiên, khối lượng ngày càng tăng của các nghiên cứu theo giới tính làm nổi bật xu hướng tìm kiếm sự giúp đỡ chậm trễ khi họ bị bệnh. Một chủ đề nổi bật giữa các nam giới da trắng thuộc tầng lớp trung lưu cho thấy ‘hành vi nam tính truyền thống’ là một lời giải thích cho sự chậm trễ trong việc tìm kiếm sự giúp đỡ ở những nam giới mắc bệnh. Tuy nhiên, lý do và quy trình đứng sau vấn đề này lại nhận được sự chú ý hạn chế.
