Tóm tắt Nền tảng Acanthamoeba polyphaga mimivirus là virus lớn nhất được biết đến thuộc loại ds-DNA và trình tự gen 1.2 Mb của nó đã tiết lộ nhiều đặc điểm độc đáo. Mimivirus chiếm một dòng dõi độc lập giữa các virus eukaryote và các ký chủ được biết đến của nó chỉ bao gồm các loài từ giống Acanthamoeba. Sự tồn tại của các họ hàng mimivirus được gợi ý lần đầu qua phân tích dữ liệu metagenomic từ Biển Sargasso.
