Chẩn đoán sớm bệnh viêm khớp dạng thấp (RA) kết hợp với khởi đầu sớm một phác đồ điều trị phù hợp được công nhận là một yếu tố quan trọng trong việc cải thiện kết quả lâm sàng cho bệnh nhân mắc RA. Chẩn đoán sớm cho phép can thiệp điều trị diễn ra sớm hơn nhằm ức chế sự tiến triển của tổn thương cấu trúc khớp cũng như cải thiện chất lượng cuộc sống của bệnh nhân. Thật không may, việc chẩn đoán sớm đã gặp nhiều thách thức do các dấu hiệu và triệu chứng không đặc hiệu liên quan đến nhiều bệnh lý viêm khớp và sự thiếu vắng các xét nghiệm chẩn đoán xác định chính xác có thể phân loại RA ngay từ khi xuất hiện.
