TÓM TẮTSử dụng mẫu gồm 49 quốc gia, chúng tôi chỉ ra rằng những quốc gia có bảo vệ nhà đầu tư yếu kém, được đo lường bằng cả tính chất của các quy định pháp luật và chất lượng thực thi pháp luật, có thị trường vốn nhỏ hơn và hẹp hơn. Những phát hiện này áp dụng cho cả thị trường chứng khoán và thị trường nợ. Cụ thể, các quốc gia có hệ thống pháp luật dân sự Pháp có cả mức độ bảo vệ nhà đầu tư yếu nhất và thị trường vốn kém phát triển nhất, đặc biệt là so với các quốc gia theo hệ thống pháp luật thông thường.
