Nghiên cứu này xem xét việc thực hiện hệ thống quản lý chất lượng (QMS) và lựa chọn một sơ đồ đảm bảo chất lượng (QAS) nào đó có phải là phản ứng của các nhà sản xuất trái cây và rau quả đối với điều kiện thị trường hay không, tách biệt các quyết định chứng nhận thành hai thành phần. Một nghiên cứu khảo sát đã được tiến hành và hai mô hình chọn lựa riêng biệt được ước lượng: logit tuần tự cho việc áp dụng QMS và probit nhị phân cho lựa chọn QAS. Kết quả cho thấy nhu cầu của người mua đối với chứng nhận và nỗ lực của nông dân để phân biệt sản phẩm của họ với những sản phẩm khác trong một khu vực có thể gặp phải các vấn đề chất lượng địa phương đã dẫn các doanh nghiệp nông nghiệp đẩy nhanh việc thực hiện QMS. Đối với lựa chọn một QAS tư nhân, đây là một quyết định do thị trường thúc đẩy.
