Nghiên cứu hiện tại được thiết kế nhằm đo lường các hợp chất phenolic và tính chất chống oxy hóa của hạt cây kế sữa trong các điều kiện chế biến tối ưu. Các điều kiện tối ưu (thời gian (60 phút), nhiệt độ (70 °C), dung môi (etanol 80%) và tỷ lệ chất lỏng trên rắn (1:10)) cho thấy sự tương quan tốt hơn giữa các giá trị giả thuyết và giá trị thực nghiệm. Kết quả cho thấy các flavonolignan được tinh chế bằng trạng thái động (2BV) với trạng thái thuận lợi nhất cho việc tách biệt các tạp chất và hàm lượng polyphenol cao. Silymarin (SMR) là hợp chất chính với trọng lượng phân tử là 481 m/z có mặt trong cây kế sữa đã được xác định bằng điều kiện HPLC tối ưu và được đặc trưng bởi ESI–MS/MS. Các phân đoạn hoạt tính đã được tách biệt bằng máy lọc ÄKTA với 40% metanol. Hơn nữa, mỗi hợp chất đều có khả năng chống oxy hóa cao trên tế bào RAW 264.7. Tuy nhiên, hoạt tính % 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl được phát hiện là cao hơn trong SMR so với các thành phần khác. Do đó, Taxifolin là hợp chất hiệu quả nhất của SMR nhờ vào khả năng chống oxy hóa của gốc tự do và gốc hydroxyl. SCN và SDN cũng cho thấy tác động như một hoạt tính chống oxy hóa tổng hợp thay vì SBN và ISBN.
