Immunseneszenz

Eine der bedeutendsten biologischen Veränderungen, die während des menschlichen Alterns auftritt, ist die Immunseneszenz. Sie ist durch eine fortschreitende Funktionsabnahme im Immunsystem charakterisiert, die zur Immundefizienz führt. Aber auch immunregulatorische Mechanismen verfallen, woraus eine ineffiziente proinflammatorische Über- und Fehlaktivierung im Immunsystem resultiert. Diese erhöht das Risiko für Infektionserkrankungen, Autoimmunität, aber auch Tumor-, Herz-Kreislauf- und neurodegenerative Erkrankungen. Viele dieser Entitäten betreffen besonders auch das dermatologische Fachgebiet. Die Immunseneszenz stellt somit einen pathologischen Ablauf dar, der in einer alternden Bevölkerung die Morbidität und Mortalität mitbestimmt und dadurch große klinische Relevanz hat. Die Erforschung der zugrunde liegenden molekularen Pathomechanismen und der Einsatz moderner Pathomechanismus-orientierter Therapeutika bietet vielfältige Möglichkeiten einer gezielten Immunmodulierung und „Verjüngung“ und damit Ansatzpunkte, um die altersbedingte Morbidität und Mortalität zu reduzieren. Einige vielversprechende „molekulare Therapeutika“ werden derzeit schon im Rahmen anderer, insbesondere auch dermatologischer Erkrankungen eingesetzt.
