Có nhiều bằng chứng đáng kể nhấn mạnh tầm quan trọng của sự tham gia của gia đình trong giáo dục và chăm sóc trẻ em mầm non (ECEC) đối với sự phát triển của trẻ và cách mà khi kết hợp với sự tham gia của chuyên gia sẽ tạo ra tác động rất tích cực đến sự phát triển toàn diện của trẻ, từ đó nâng cao chất lượng ECEC. Tuy nhiên, trong thực tế, việc giao tiếp với các gia đình có nền tảng đa dạng, những người có thời gian hạn chế, nghĩa vụ nghề nghiệp và những kỳ vọng khác nhau về ECEC của trẻ lại chứng tỏ là một thách thức.
