Thế giới quan đóng một vai trò quan trọng trong việc hình thành và thúc đẩy những thái độ và hành vi môi trường cụ thể hơn của con người. Trong bối cảnh tôn giáo, việc chú ý đến các thế giới quan sinh thái (thần học), được định nghĩa là những niềm tin cơ bản về mối quan hệ giữa Chúa, Trái Đất và nhân loại, giúp các nhà nghiên cứu và nhà thực hành môi trường hiểu rõ hơn về các khuôn khổ tôn giáo có thể khuyến khích hoặc ngăn cản hành động môi trường. Nghiên cứu này dựa trên dữ liệu từ Khảo sát Đời Sống Nhà Thờ Quốc Gia Úc năm 2011 để xem xét niềm tin của những người đi nhà thờ về sự hiện diện của Chúa trong thiên nhiên và quyền thống trị của con người đối với môi trường. Những người đi nhà thờ Úc đã xác nhận mạnh mẽ sự hiện diện của Chúa trong thế giới tự nhiên, nhưng ít khẳng định về thần học thống trị. Sự thống trị khác nhau giữa các truyền thống nhà thờ, nhưng niềm tin về sự hiện diện của Chúa thì không. Những niềm tin này dự đoán một loạt các biện pháp về thái độ và hành vi môi trường.
