GitLab là một công ty phần mềm hoạt động hoàn toàn từ xa với quy mô hơn 1000 nhân viên nằm rải rác tại hơn 60 quốc gia. GitLab không có văn phòng vật lý và nhân viên của công ty có thể làm việc từ bất kỳ đâu mà họ chọn. Mọi khía cạnh trong cuộc sống tổ chức của nhân viên GitLab (ví dụ: tuyển dụng, đào tạo và sa thải) đều được thực hiện từ xa, ngoại trừ một cuộc họp toàn công ty hàng năm. GitLab phụ thuộc mạnh vào việc phối hợp không đồng bộ, cho phép nhân viên làm việc bất cứ lúc nào họ muốn. Sau khi nêu bật một số thực hành chính mà GitLab đã triển khai để làm việc hiệu quả hoàn toàn từ xa và không đồng bộ, tôi đã hỏi ý kiến của những nhà khoa học tổ chức nổi tiếng về trường hợp thú vị này và để thảo luận về khả năng áp dụng của mô hình làm việc không đồng bộ toàn bộ từ xa.
