Tóm tắt Các yêu cầu về môi trường sống của ong đơn độc bao gồm các địa điểm làm tổ, nguồn thực phẩm và vật liệu làm tổ. Chúng tôi đã sử dụng các thí nghiệm chuyển giao để xác định khoảng cách tìm kiếm và đo thời gian chuyến đi tìm kiếm nhằm phân tích cách mà ong đơn độc đối phó với khoảng cách giữa các địa điểm làm tổ và các loại cây thực phẩm phù hợp trong các loại môi trường sống khác nhau. Khoảng cách tìm kiếm tối đa giữa địa điểm làm tổ và khu vực thực phẩm là từ 150–600 m đối với 16 loài ong được nghiên cứu. Khoảng cách tìm kiếm có mối tương quan tích cực với chiều dài cơ thể. Thời gian chuyến đi tìm kiếm trung bình, được đo cho bảy loài ong, dao động từ 6 đến 28 phút và cũng có mối tương quan với chiều dài cơ thể. Trong một nghiên cứu về loài đa thực vật Osmia rufa, chúng tôi nhận thấy sự giảm đáng kể thời gian chuyến đi tìm kiếm khi số lượng loài thực vật tăng lên. Các hồi quy logistic cho thấy rằng loài trưởng thành aoligoleptic Megachile lapponica làm tổ trong tổ bẫy với xác suất 50% nếu khoảng cách giữa tổ bẫy và khu vực thực phẩm nhỏ hơn 250 m. Loài aoligoleptic Chelostoma rapunculi sử dụng tổ bẫy khi khoảng cách đến khu vực thực phẩm gần nhất nhỏ hơn 300 m. Các thí nghiệm này cho thấy rằng ong đơn độc có phạm vi tìm kiếm khá nhỏ, vì vậy cấu trúc môi trường sống địa phương dường như quan trọng hơn cấu trúc cảnh quan quy mô lớn. Tất cả các yêu cầu để duy trì quần thể bền vững phải nằm trong phạm vi này. Do đó, cần thiết phải duy trì và khôi phục một mạng lưới dày đặc các khu vực môi trường sống trong các cảnh quan để đảm bảo tính bền vững lâu dài của sự đa dạng của ong hoang dã và chức năng sinh thái của chúng như những người thụ phấn.
