Dưới tác động của axit retinoic, ba dòng tế bào neuroblastoma người SK-N-BE(2)-bao gồm BE(2)-NA, BE(2)-SA và BE(2)-M17 chủ yếu trải qua quá trình biệt hóa, chết tế bào hoặc tiếp tục tăng sinh, tương ứng. Chúng tôi đã sử dụng hệ thống mô hình này để nghiên cứu sự điều chế biểu hiện phiên mã của các enzyme xử lý tiềm năng, hai metallopeptidase mới; tức là N-arginine dibasic convertase (NRD convertase; EC 3.4.24.61) và một aminopeptidase-B sau khi tế bào được tiếp xúc với axit retinoic hoặc các chế phẩm tương tự tổng hợp của retinoid. Dữ liệu cho thấy hai enzyme tương ứng được điều chế khác nhau trong các dòng tế bào khác nhau. Trong khi biểu hiện aminopeptidase-B được tăng cường trong hầu hết các trường hợp, NRD convertase dường như bị điều hòa ngược lại trong các tế bào neuroblastoma đang tăng sinh so với các tế bào đang biệt hóa. Kết luận cho thấy cả hai gen này có thể chứa các yếu tố điều hòa axit retinoic (RARE) trong các trình tự khởi động của chúng.
