Tóm tắtThủ thuật tẩy bỏ tĩnh mạch lớn đã trở thành phương pháp tiêu chuẩn trong điều trị bệnh giãn tĩnh mạch. Thành công lâm sàng của các phương pháp nhiệt nội tĩnh mạch so với phẫu thuật tách tĩnh mạch là tương đương, không có sự khác biệt đáng kể giữa các nhóm này trong các phân tích dài hạn. Chỉ có sự khác biệt trong sự hình thành các biến chứng tái phát được phát hiện bằng siêu âm Doppler: Sự neo-angiogenesis xảy ra sau phẫu thuật tách tĩnh mạch, trong khi tái phát chủ yếu xảy ra qua tĩnh mạch phụ V. saphena accessoria anterior sau khi thực hiện tẩy bỏ tĩnh mạch lớn bằng nhiệt. Đã có những chứng minh về tiết kiệm chi phí khi thực hiện nhiều thủ thuật nội tĩnh mạch hơn trong môi trường ngoại trú so với phẫu thuật tách tĩnh mạch, mà ở Đức vẫn thường được thực hiện nội trú (so với các quốc gia khác). Nên thực hiện một cuộc mổ cắt tĩnh mạch nội mạch. Các phương pháp catheter nội lòng không sử dụng nhiệt chủ yếu dành cho việc điều trị tĩnh mạch nhỏ V. saphena parva.
