Sử dụng các phương pháp dược lý và sinh hóa, nghiên cứu về vai trò của Ca2+ trong việc sản xuất betulin trong sợi nấm của Phellinus linteus bị kích thích bởi hydro sulfua (H2S) đã được thực hiện. Kết quả cho thấy rằng 2 mM H2S dạng cho (NaHS) hoặc 10 mM CaCl2 đã làm tăng hàm lượng betulin trong sợi nấm của Phellinus lên mức tối đa, với mức tăng lần lượt là 112.43% và 93.24% so với nhóm đối chứng. Thêm vào đó, việc điều trị đồng NaHS và CaCl2 cũng cho thấy kết quả tích cực, với sự gia tăng lần lượt là 128.95% hoặc 24.52% so với nhóm đối chứng hoặc điều trị bằng NaHS. Đồng thời, NaHS cũng làm tăng hàm lượng Ca2+ và CaM. Tuy nhiên, những tác động kích thích tích cực trên Ca2+, CaM và sản xuất betulin có thể bị chặn lại bằng cách sử dụng chất chặn kênh Ca2+ (LaCl3, 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate) hoặc chất chelat Ca2+ (acid ethylenediaminetetraacetic (EDTA)). Trong đó, hàm lượng betulin giảm 35.06% bởi NaHS và EGTA ở mức tối thiểu, và sự giảm này có thể đảo ngược bằng cách áp dụng CaCl2 (NaHS + EGTA + CaCl2). Từ những kết quả trên, có thể kết luận rằng canxi nội sinh và ngoại sinh tham gia vào quá trình sản xuất betulin từ văn hóa chìm của P. linteus được kích thích bởi hydro sulfua.
