Việc bổ sung creatine qua chế độ ăn (CrS) là một thực hành thường thấy ở những người có hoạt động thể chất tích cực. Tuy nhiên, các tác động của CrS đến khả năng phản ứng vi mạch toàn thân và mật độ vi mạch chưa bao giờ được báo cáo. Thêm vào đó, CrS có thể ảnh hưởng đến mức homocysteine trong máu, dẫn đến những tác động dự kiến lên chức năng nội mô mạch máu. Do đó, chúng tôi đã nghiên cứu các tác động của CrS đến tuần hoàn vi mô toàn thân và mức độ homocysteine ở những cá nhân trẻ khỏe mạnh. Nghiên cứu mở này được thực hiện trên một nhóm 40 nam giới khỏe mạnh, có hoạt động thể chất vừa phải, tuổi trung bình 27.7 ± 13.4 năm, những người nhận một tuần bổ sung CrS với liều 20 g/ngày creatine monohydrate dạng micron hóa có sẵn trên thị trường. Phương pháp hình ảnh tương phản bằng tia laser được dùng để đánh giá khả năng phản ứng vi mạch da, và kính hiển vi video trong sinh học được sử dụng để đánh giá mật độ và khả năng phản ứng của mao mạch da, trước và sau khi bổ sung CrS. CrS không làm thay đổi mức homocysteine trong huyết tương, mặc dù CrS đã làm tăng mức creatinine (p = 0.0001) và giảm mức axit uric (p = 0.0004) trong huyết tương. Những thay đổi đáng kể trong mức cholesterol toàn phần (p = 0.0486) và cholesterol LDL (p = 0.0027) cũng đã được quan sát bên cạnh sự giảm của mức T3 trong huyết tương (p = 0.0074) và sự tăng của mức T4 (p = 0.0003). Mật độ mao mạch có chức năng của da (p = 0.0496) và việc thu hút mao mạch trong trường hợp tăng huyết áp phản ứng sau cắt (p = 0.0043) đã tăng lên sau CrS. Sự gia tăng trong việc giãn mạch vi mạch da do tăng huyết áp phản ứng sau cắt (p = 0.0078) cũng đã được quan sát. Việc bổ sung creatine qua đường miệng ở người lớn trẻ khỏe mạnh có hoạt động thể chất vừa phải cải thiện khả năng phản ứng vi mạch phụ thuộc nội mô toàn thân và tăng mật độ cũng như sự tham gia của mao mạch da. Những tác động này không đồng thời với sự thay đổi về mức homocysteine trong huyết tương.
