When discussing biographical works in the context of reference necessities, it is impossible to exclude the Dictionary of American Biography. Having already looked at Who's Who in America RSR 8 no. 4 (1980) and the National Cyclopedia of American Biography (RSR 9 no. 4 [1981]), it is appropriate that we review also what many librarians and scholars consider the essential source of information on famous Americans.
