Nhiễm Cytomegalovirus (CMV) đã được báo cáo là góp phần vào cơ chế bệnh sinh của tiểu đường type 1 và tiểu đường sau ghép. Tuy nhiên, nhiễm CMV vẫn chưa được đánh giá như một yếu tố rủi ro tiềm năng cho tiểu đường type 2. Mục tiêu của chúng tôi là điều tra các mối liên quan tiềm năng giữa sự dương tính với CMV, mức độ kháng thể IgG CMV và việc điều chỉnh glucose ở nhóm người cao tuổi nhất.
Các đối tượng dương tính với CMV có khả năng mắc tiểu đường type 2 cao hơn (17,2% so với 7,9%, p = 0,016), có mức HbA1c cao hơn (p = 0,014) và mức glucose không đói cao hơn (p = 0,024) ở nhóm người cao tuổi nhất. Các mối liên quan này vẫn duy trì có ý nghĩa sau khi điều chỉnh cho các yếu tố có thể gây nhiễu. Mức độ kháng thể IgG CMV không có mối liên quan đáng kể với việc điều chỉnh glucose (tất cả p > 0,05).
Ở nhóm người cao tuổi nhất, sự dương tính với CMV có liên quan đáng kể đến các chỉ số khác nhau của việc điều chỉnh glucose. Kết quả này đề xuất rằng nhiễm CMV có thể là một yếu tố rủi ro cho sự phát triển của tiểu đường type 2 ở người cao tuổi.
