Hai nghiên cứu đã khảo sát mối quan hệ giữa việc điều chỉnh cơn giận của trẻ em và hành vi nghịch ngợm, sử dụng mẫu từ cộng đồng. Nghiên cứu đầu tiên bao gồm 58 trẻ từ mẫu giáo đến lớp hai và kiểm tra các mối liên hệ đồng thời giữa việc điều chỉnh và hành vi nghịch ngợm. Nghiên cứu thứ hai bao gồm 40 trẻ em tại mẫu giáo và lớp một, và xem xét việc điều chỉnh cùng hành vi nghịch ngợm 2 năm sau. Trong cả hai nghiên cứu, tính phản ứng cơn giận và các chiến lược điều chỉnh đã được đánh giá trong các chuyến thăm nhà thông qua cùng một nhiệm vụ quan sát. Ở nghiên cứu 1, các giáo viên đã hoàn thành danh sách kiểm tra hành vi vấn đề ngay sau chuyến thăm nhà. Ở nghiên cứu 2, các giáo viên đã hoàn thành danh sách kiểm tra hành vi vấn đề 2 năm sau.
