Khác với khởi nghiệp thông thường, khởi nghiệp xã hội (SE) được đặc trưng bởi việc tích hợp giải quyết các vấn đề xã hội và tăng trưởng kinh tế bền vững vào lĩnh vực khởi nghiệp. Giáo dục khởi nghiệp xã hội (SEE) có thể giúp sinh viên rèn luyện các kỹ năng cần thiết để phát triển một doanh nghiệp và xác định, giải quyết các vấn đề xã hội. Các nghiên cứu trước đây đã thảo luận kỹ lưỡng về tầm quan trọng của SEE trong giáo dục đại học, nhưng do tính chất liên ngành và vượt biên của SE, SEE cần sự tham gia của nhiều ngành học khác nhau. Tuy nhiên, hầu hết các khóa học SE hiện nay chủ yếu được cung cấp tại các trường kinh doanh, và ít nhà nghiên cứu khám phá việc tích hợp SE với các ngành học khác nhau. Việc khám phá hạn chế này, cả trong lĩnh vực thực tiễn và lý thuyết, có thể dẫn đến cái nhìn không toàn diện về SEE và ngăn cản sự phát triển tiếp theo. Nghiên cứu này đã xác định ba loại khóa học liên quan đến SE (đổi mới xã hội, khởi nghiệp xã hội và đổi mới xã hội theo ngành) và thực hiện các cuộc thảo luận nhóm tập trung để làm rõ những khác biệt và tương đồng trong thiết kế chương trình giảng dạy cho việc thực hiện các khóa học này. Kết quả nghiên cứu cung cấp một cái nhìn độc đáo về cách các yếu tố SE có thể được tích hợp vào các bối cảnh khóa học khác nhau.
