Phương pháp này bao gồm việc hình thành dẫn xuất (−)-menthoxycarbonyl (MCO) của hai nhóm hydroxyl, sự phân cắt oxy hóa của liên kết đôi, và phân tích khí cromatography (GC) của hai mảnh dị thể ester hóa methyl, methyl 2-MCO-decanoate và dimethyl 2-MCO-octanedioate.
