Dựa trên những kết quả hứa hẹn từ nghiên cứu ở người lớn, Liệu pháp Chấp nhận và Cam kết (ACT) được xem như một cơ hội điều trị cho thanh thiếu niên bị trầm cảm. Chúng tôi trình bày một nghiên cứu thử nghiệm so sánh ACT với phương pháp điều trị thông thường (TAU), sử dụng sự phân bổ ngẫu nhiên cho những người tham gia được giới thiệu về lâm sàng đến dịch vụ ngoại trú tâm thần. Các đối tượng tham gia gồm 30 thanh thiếu niên, với độ tuổi trung bình M = 14.9 (SD = 2.55), trong đó 73.6% nằm trong khoảng lâm sàng của trầm cảm. Tại thời điểm sau điều trị, về các biện pháp trầm cảm, những người tham gia trong nhóm ACT cho thấy sự cải thiện đáng kể về mặt thống kê (d = 0.38), và 58% cho thấy sự thay đổi đáng tin cậy về lâm sàng với tỷ lệ phản ứng 1.59 nghiêng về ACT. Kết quả từ dữ liệu theo dõi sau 3 tháng là tạm thời do số lượng nhỏ, nhưng cho thấy rằng mức độ cải thiện có xu hướng tăng lên. Các biện pháp về chức năng toàn cầu cho thấy sự cải thiện đáng kể về mặt thống kê cho cả hai phương pháp điều trị, mặc dù các biện pháp thay đổi lâm sàng chỉ thiên về nhóm ACT. Kết quả hỗ trợ việc tiến hành một thử nghiệm lớn hơn về ACT trong điều trị trầm cảm ở thanh thiếu niên.
