Hỗ trợ học tập hợp tác phù hợp là điều cần thiết cho việc học nhóm trong bối cảnh lớp học lật, đặc biệt là trong giai đoạn học tập ngoại khóa. Nghiên cứu này liên quan đến một chiến lược lập bản đồ tư duy hợp tác để thu hút người học tham gia các hoạt động nhóm trong môi trường lớp học lật. Một thí nghiệm thí điểm đã được thực hiện để kiểm tra tác động của chiến lược này đến thành tích học tập, sự tự tin, động lực và sự chấp nhận lập bản đồ tư duy trong một khóa học nhiếp ảnh tin tức. Cụ thể, nghiên cứu này so sánh tác động của hai chiến lược lập bản đồ tư duy (hợp tác so với cá nhân) kết hợp với các phương pháp giảng dạy (lớp học lật so với truyền thống) đến kết quả học tập của sinh viên. Thiết kế thí nghiệm hỗn hợp 2 × 2 đã được sử dụng, với các chiến lược lập bản đồ tư duy là yếu tố trong-subjects và các phương pháp giảng dạy là yếu tố between-subjects. Chín mươi hai sinh viên năm hai tham gia khóa học này đã được phân ngẫu nhiên vào lớp học lật hoặc giảng dạy truyền thống. Cả hai nhóm phương pháp đều sử dụng lập bản đồ tư duy hợp tác và cá nhân.
