Đặt vấn đề Sự tham gia của công chúng trong nghiên cứu đang gia tăng ở các quốc gia phương Tây và các nước đang phát triển. Cần học hỏi từ kinh nghiệm tập thể và một tài liệu đa dạng từ nghiên cứu, tài liệu chính sách và các báo cáo phản ánh.

Phương pháp Các tìm kiếm hệ thống trong tài liệu nghiên cứu, chính sách và mạng lưới phổ thông đã xác định các báo cáo về sự tham gia của công chúng trong việc thiết lập chương trình nghiên cứu. Phân tích khung khái niệm, đã được mô tả trước đó cho nghiên cứu sơ bộ, được sử dụng để phát triển khung, sau đó được áp dụng cho các báo cáo về sự tham gia của công chúng nhằm phân tích và so sánh chúng.

Kết quả Khung khái niệm xem xét những người tham gia; những người khởi xướng sự tham gia; mức độ tham gia của công chúng; diễn đàn trao đổi; và các phương pháp được sử dụng cho việc ra quyết định. Nó cũng xem xét bối cảnh (theo cách nhìn về trọng tâm nghiên cứu và bối cảnh lịch sử, địa lý hoặc thể chế) và cơ sở lý thuyết.

Kết luận Khung khái niệm hỗ trợ việc học hỏi từ những trải nghiệm đa dạng, cho dù được báo cáo trong tài liệu chính sách, phản ánh hay nghiên cứu chính thức, nhằm tạo ra một cái nhìn tổng quan có liên quan đến chính sách và thực hành.
