Nghiên cứu hiện tại xem xét tác động tương đối của các bài thi mang về (sách mở) và bài thi trên lớp (sách đóng) đến hiệu suất học tập và kết quả sức khỏe của sinh viên. Cụ thể, nghiên cứu này đóng góp vào sự hiểu biết của chúng ta về việc giữ kiến thức lâu dài của sinh viên, được đo lường từ bốn đến sáu tháng sau khi hoàn thành khóa học. Một tập dữ liệu theo thời gian độc đáo bao gồm bốn nhóm của khóa học cử nhân và thạc sĩ khoa học xã hội đã áp dụng hoặc là bài thi mang về hoặc bài thi trên lớp trong các năm liên tiếp đã được sử dụng. Dữ liệu khảo sát bao gồm các chỉ số về sức khỏe và hiệu suất học tập cũng như một bài kiểm tra giữ kiến thức 10 câu hỏi.
