Tóm tắt

The rapid development of technology and the internet, particularly short-format video applications like TikTok, has changed human life globally and in Vietnam specifically. Short-format videos' widespread impact brings significant benefits and potential risks (Chen et al., 2020) [1]. This study applies flow theory, media dependence theory, and temporary motivation theory alongside a questionnaire survey method to 306 students at a university in Hanoi. The findings reveal that short-format videos can offer a range of benefits, including Enhancing Learning by facilitating the development of learning and life skills, providing Easy Access to Knowledge, fostering Connected Learning Communities, and enabling Convenient Learning in Open Spaces. However, the study also identifies Potential Challenges. Continuously watching short-format videos for extended periods can lead to Distraction, Reduced Concentration, and Time Consumption. Research suggests these factors, along with potential addiction and negative impacts on physical health, can hinder learning. Interestingly, the study also found statistically significant differences related to gender and daily viewing time, suggesting a complex interplay between these factors and learning outcomes (p < 0.05).
