Uncertain averaging operators: a new way to study the psychosocial organizational phenomena
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 50 - Trang 2725-2739 - 2015
The aim of this paper is to use uncertain averaging operators (Uncertain Average, Uncertain Weighted Average, Uncertain Probabilistic Aggregation, and Uncertain Probabilistic Weighted Average) in order to explore psychosocial processes. Traditionally, research in the field of work and organizational psychology has departed from positivism, based on simple deterministic laws that are unable to account for the complexity of organizational phenomena. Our purpose is to show how the Experton methodology contributes to the study of managers’ subjectivity on their perception of Corporate Social Responsibility policies development. This is a very innovating perspective in the research of work and organizational psychology. We developed an interview guideline to analyze the level of development of policies for the workplace integration of persons with disabilities. Thirty-five interviews were obtained. Respondents were top managers, Chief Executive Officers, human resources and Corporate Social Responsibility managers. Ten academic and professional experts, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, were asked to establish confidence intervals based on four anchors. The results achieved by the managers and by the experts group reached a similar assessment of the degree of deployment of those policies related to collaborate with the local community and associations, and the setting-up of strategic alliances. These techniques provide an assessment that optimizes the result, as it indicates the exact level of implementation of the policies for the workplace integration of persons with disabilities.
The hotly debate of human capital and economic growth: why institutions may matter?
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 54 - Trang 1351-1362 - 2020
In neo-classical theory, evidences are found that human capital is a progressive contributor of economic growth. However, empirically the relationship may not always hold across the countries. The present study can (1) strengthen the role of human capital in accounting for current scenario (2) reunite the prevailing conditions for economic growth and (3) investigates complementary or substitutionary effects of trade openness, inflation and human capital with institutions on economic growth. The results divulge that human capital alone may not be a significant contributor to economic growth in selected Asian Countries. Institutions reinforce the impact of human capital on economic growth; as they provide necessary conditions to amplify the impact of human capital development. The sufficient condition is the presence of high-quality institutional structure with trade openness and human capital as complementary effect on per capita GDP growth. The impact of inflation (proxy of macro-economic policies) has substitutionary effect with institution.

Benchmarking therapists: furthering the benchmarking method in its application to clinical practice
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 46 - Trang 1699-1708 - 2011
Psychotherapy research has been interested in understanding the variability observed among therapists with regard to their treatment effectiveness. An important initial step towards understanding the source of the differences is to reliably identify therapists that are effective. The current paper thus proposes a method for benchmarking therapists against predetermined criteria of effectiveness which could be conducted using any standard statistical package. Basic steps include (a) creating benchmark(s), (b) determining a prior the numerical criteria that constitute as “effective” based on the benchmark(s), (c) calculating pre-post effect sizes as an indicator of effectiveness at the case level using statistical adjustments so as to best match clinical (and other) differences among cases, and (d) statistically benchmarking the therapists using a random-effects hierarchical linear modeling. An example is provided that highlights the number of therapists who would be classified as effective based on various numerical criteria and confidence levels.

Foreign arrivals nowcasting in Italy with Google Trends data
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 53 - Trang 2385-2401 - 2018
The development of the ICT has deeply transformed the tourism industry. ICT has become a key determinant for competitiveness that deeply impacts on marketing and communication strategies. Online Travel Agency is accumulating a huge mass of valuable information. Web Data (Big Data) can actually represent an up-to-date information, which can be used as a support to improve statistical information, especially for monitoring current phenomena, as arrivals, spent nights, or the average length of stay. In this respect, an interesting issue is the assessment of the contribution of Web data for forecasting tourism flows. Specifically, nowcasting is a special case of forecasting as it deals with the knowledge of the present, immediate past and very near future. The aim of the paper is to assess the effective advantage of Google Trends (GT) data in forecasting tourist arrivals in Italy. The analysis is related to monthly foreign arrivals in tourist accommodations facilities. Google Trends data are used to predict the monthly number of foreign arrivals released by the Italian national statistical office, which is the dependent variable. Specifically, we have assessed the contribution of lagged GT variables in a standard ARIMA model and in a time series regression model with seasonal dummies and autoregressive components.

A statistical procedure for testing social reciprocity at group, dyadic and individual levels
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 44 - Trang 971-984 - 2009
This paper examines statistical analysis of social reciprocity, that is, the balance between addressing and receiving behaviour in social interactions. Specifically, it focuses on the measurement of social reciprocity by means of directionality and skew-symmetry statistics at different levels. Two statistics have been used as overall measures of social reciprocity at group level: the directional consistency and the skew-symmetry statistics. Furthermore, the skew-symmetry statistic allows social researchers to obtain complementary information at dyadic and individual levels. However, having computed these measures, social researchers may be interested in testing statistical hypotheses regarding social reciprocity. For this reason, it has been developed a statistical procedure, based on Monte Carlo sampling, in order to allow social researchers to describe groups and make statistical decisions.
