Silicon microring resonators Tập 6 Số 1 - Trang 47-73 - 2012
Wim Bogaerts, Peter De Heyn, Thomas Van Vaerenbergh, Katrien De Vos, Shankar Kumar Selvaraja, Tom Claes, Pieter Dumon, Peter Bienstman, Dries Van Thourhout, Roel Baets
AbstractAn overview is presented of the current state‐of‐the‐art in silicon
nanophotonic ring resonators. Basic theory of ring resonators is discussed, and
applied to the peculiarities of submicron silicon photonic wire waveguides: the
small dimensions and tight bend radii, sensitivity to perturbations and the
boundary conditions of the fabrication processes. Theory is compared to
quantitative mea... hiện toàn bộ
Terahertz spectroscopy and imaging – Modern techniques and applications Tập 5 Số 1 - Trang 124-166 - 2011
Peter Uhd Jepsen, David G. Cooke, Martín Koch
AbstractOver the past three decades a new spectroscopic technique with unique
possibilities has emerged. Based on coherent and time‐resolved detection of the
electric field of ultrashort radiation bursts in the far‐infrared, this
technique has become known as terahertz time‐domain spectroscopy (THz‐TDS). In
this review article the authors describe the technique in its various
implementations for s... hiện toàn bộ
Thermo‐plasmonics: using metallic nanostructures as nano‐sources of heat Tập 7 Số 2 - Trang 171-187 - 2013
Guillaume Baffou, Romain Quidant
AbstractRecent years have seen a growing interest in using metal nanostructures
to control temperature on the nanoscale. Under illumination at its plasmonic
resonance, a metal nanoparticle features enhanced light absorption, turning it
into an ideal nano‐source of heat, remotely controllable using light. Such a
powerful and flexible photothermal scheme is the basis of thermo‐plasmonics.
Here, the ... hiện toàn bộ
Tilted fiber Bragg grating sensors Tập 7 Số 1 - Trang 83-108 - 2013
Jacques Albert, Liyang Shao, Christophe Caucheteur
AbstractOptical fiber gratings have developed into a mature technology with a
wide range of applications in various areas, including physical sensing for
temperature, strain, acoustic waves and pressure. All of these applications rely
on the perturbation of the period or refractive index of a grating inscribed in
the fiber core as a transducing mechanism between a quantity to be measured and
the o... hiện toàn bộ
2D Layered Materials: Synthesis, Nonlinear Optical Properties, and Device Applications Tập 13 Số 12 - 2019
Bo Guo, Quanlan Xiao, Shi‐hao Wang, Han Zhang
AbstractIn recent years, 2D layered materials, including graphene, topological
insulators, transition metal dichalcogenides, black phosphorus, MXenes,
graphitic carbon nitride, and metal‐organic frameworks, have attracted
considerable interest due to their potential applications in the fields of
physics, chemistry, biology, and energy. Their rise in the field of nonlinear
photonics began around 20... hiện toàn bộ
Plasmon lasers: coherent light source at molecular scales Tập 7 Số 1 - Trang 1-21 - 2013
Ren‐Min Ma, Rupert F. Oulton, Volker J. Sorger, Xiang Zhang
AbstractPlasmon lasers are a new class of coherent optical frequency
electromagnetic wave amplifiers that deliver intense, coherent and directional
surface plasmons well below the diffraction barrier. The strongly confined
electric fields in plasmon lasers can enhance significantly light‐matter
interactions and bring fundamentally new capabilities to bio‐sensing, data
storage, photolithography and... hiện toàn bộ
Glass Ceramic Phosphors: Towards Long‐Lifetime High‐Power White Light‐Emitting‐Diode Applications–A Review Tập 12 Số 6 - 2018
Hang Lin, Tao Hu, Yao Cheng, Mingxiang Chen, Yuansheng Wang
AbstractWith the technological advancements of high‐quality lightings and
high‐end displays, white light‐emitting‐diodes (w‐LEDs) are quickly developing
towards high energy density excitation, high output power and high device
stability, which requires outstanding thermal properties of the phosphor color
converters. In this connection, all‐inorganic luminescent glass ceramic (GC),
exhibiting excel... hiện toàn bộ
Progress in Cr2+and Fe2+doped mid‐IR laser materials Tập 4 Số 1 - Trang 21-41 - 2010
Sergey Mirov, Vladimir Fedorov, Igor Moskalev, Dmitri V. Martyshkin, Changsu Kim
AbstractRecent progress in chromium and iron doped II‐VI semiconductor materials
makes them the laser sources of choice when one needs a compact system with
tunability over 1.9–5.1 μm. Output powers exceeding 10 W and efficiency up to
70% were demonstrated in several Cr doped semiconductors. The unique combination
of technological (low‐cost ceramic material) and spectroscopic characteristics

Fluorescent and lasing whispering gallery mode microresonators for sensing applications Tập 11 Số 2 - 2017
Tess Reynolds, Nicolas Riesen, A. Meldrum, Xudong Fan, Jonathan M. M. Hall, Tanya M. Monro, F. Alexandre
AbstractWhispering gallery modes (WGMs) have been exploited for a broad range of
sensing applications. However, the vast majority of WGM sensors consist of
passive resonators, requiring complex interrogation systems to be employed,
ultimately limiting their practicality. Active resonators containing a gain
medium, allowing remote excitation and collection of the WGM‐modulated
fluorescence spectra,... hiện toàn bộ
Ultra‐large effective‐area, higher‐order mode fibers: a new strategy for high‐power lasers Tập 2 Số 6 - Trang 429-448 - 2008
Siddharth Ramachandran, John M. Fini, Marc D. Mermelstein, Jeffrey W. Nicholson, S. Ghalmi, Mingjian Yan
AbstractThis paper describes the physics and properties of a novel optical fiber
that would be attractive for building high‐power fiber lasers and amplifiers.
Instead of propagating light in the fundamental, Gaussian‐shaped mode, we
describe a fiber in which the signal is forced to travel in a single, desired
higher order mode (HOM). This provides for several advantages over the
conventional appro... hiện toàn bộ
