Are the Negative Effects of Divorce on Well‐Being Dependent on Marital Quality?Journal of Marriage and Family - Tập 68 Số 5 - Trang 1197-1213 - 2006
Matthijs Kalmijn, Christiaan Monden
We test the so‐called escape hypothesis, which argues that for people from a
poor marriage, a divorce has a less negative or even a positive effect on
well‐being. In an analysis of two waves of the National Survey of Families and
Households (N =4,526), we find only limited evidence. When people divorce from a
dissatisfactory or unfair marriage, they experience smaller increases in

Divorce and Adult Psychological Well‐Being: Clarifying the Role of Gender and Child AgeJournal of Marriage and Family - Tập 68 Số 5 - Trang 1178-1196 - 2006
Kristi Williams, Alexandra Dunne‐Bryant
Substantial evidence indicates that marital dissolution has negative
consequences for adult well‐being. Because most research focuses on the average
consequences of divorce, we know very little about factors that moderate this
association. The present study tests the hypothesis that the effects of marital
dissolution on adult well‐being are greatest for those with young children in

A Conscious and Inclusive Family StudiesJournal of Marriage and Family - Tập 62 Số 1 - Trang 4-17 - 2000

mediating role of family interactions on the relation between 1994 family
economic pressure and increased marital instability 1994–1996. The models
demonstrate that economic pressure made both husbands and wives irritable, and
their tension exacerbated problem behaviors (e.g., drinking and fighting) and
depression. Husban... hiện toàn bộ

Although the association of being married and a lower mortality rate has been
well established, most previous research on marital status and mortality did not
consider potential change in this relationship over time. In this study, I
adopted a survey cohort perspective to examine both overall and cause‐specific
mortality trends by marital status from 1986 to 2000 in the United States. On
the basis... hiện toàn bộ
