We consider a number of characteristics of friction mechanisms related to
continuously rated drives (variators) in which the motion in some kinematic
pairs is transmitted by friction forces. It is shown that dynamic equations
include nonholonomic constraints under these conditions, so the solution is
carried out within the framework of generalized Lagrange equations.

The results of a complex examination of a spindle drive unit of a
profile-grinding machine for a case involving bearing support failure are
