Estimating carbon accumulation rates of undrained mires in Finland–application to boreal and subarctic regions Tập 12 Số 1 - Trang 69-80 - 2002
Jukka Turunen, Erkki Tomppo, Kimmo Tolonen, Antti Reinikainen
Equations based on empirical relationships of peat physical properties were used
to estimate the average long-term apparent rate of carbon accumulation (LORCA)
in Finnish mire vegetation regions. The results were generalized to the boreal
and subarctic regions. Analyses of 1302 dated peat cores were used to infer
carbon accumulation for each mire vegetation region of Finland. The
area-weighted LOR... hiện toàn bộ
High-resolution palaeoclimatology of the last millennium: a review of current status and future prospects Tập 19 Số 1 - Trang 3-49 - 2009

Ammann, Brendan M. Buckley, K. M. Cobb, Jan Esper, Hugues Goosse, Nicholas E. Graham, Eystein Jansen, Thorsten Kiefer, Christoph Kull, Marcel Küttel, Ellen Mosley‐Thompson, Jonathan T. Overpeck, N. Riedwyl, Michael Schulz, Alexander W. Tudhope, Ricardo Villalba, J. Werner, Eric Wolff, Elena Xoplaki
This review of late-Holocene palaeoclimatology represents the results from a
PAGES/CLIVAR Intersection Panel meeting that took place in June 2006. The review
is in three parts: the principal high-resolution proxy disciplines (trees,
corals, ice cores and documentary evidence), emphasizing current issues in their
use for climate reconstruction; the various approaches that have been adopted to

Three decades of dating recent sediments by fallout radionuclides: a review Tập 18 Số 1 - Trang 83-93 - 2008
P. G. Appleby
This paper reviews the 210Pb dating programme carried out at the University of
Liverpool over a period of three decades since its inception by Frank Oldfield
in the mid-1970s. The work at Liverpool has included studies of the basic
processes controlling the supply of 210Pb to the various natural archives, as
well as the development of a detailed and systematic methodology for dating the
environmen... hiện toàn bộ
Climatic, vegetation and cultural change in the eastern Mediterranean during the mid-Holocene environmental transition Tập 21 Số 1 - Trang 147-162 - 2011
Neil Roberts, Warren J. Eastwood, Catherine Kuzucuoğlu, Girolamo Fiorentino, Valentina Caracuta
The eastern Mediterranean region witnessed changes in human culture of the
highest importance between ~9000 and ~2500 cal. BP (7000—500 BC) and over the
same time period was affected by very significant shifts in climate. Stable
isotope data from lake and deep-sea sediment cores and from cave speleothems
show an overall trend from a wetter to a drier climate during the mid Holocene.

Synchronous Holocene climatic oscillations recorded on the Swiss Plateau and at timberline in the Alps Tập 8 Số 3 - Trang 301-309 - 1998
Jean Nicolas Haas, Isabelle Richoz, Willy Tinner, Lucia Wick
Eight synchronous pre-Roman cold phases were found at 9600–9200, 8600–8150,
7550–6900, 6600– 6200, 5350–4900, 4600–4400, 3500–3200 and 2600–2350 radiocarbon
years BP by reconstructing past climate at two sites on the Swiss Plateau and at
timberline in the Alps. The cooling events during the early-and mid-Holocene
represent temperature values similar to today, and apparently the onset of
cooling ev... hiện toàn bộ
Pollen evidence from tropical Australia for the onset of an ENSO-dominated climate at c. 4000 BP Tập 5 Số 1 - Trang 10-18 - 1995
James Shulmeister, Jeffery A. Thompson
The Holocene climatic history of tropical northern Australia is re-examined
using the recently published pollen record from Groote Eylandt to corroborate
and refine previous climatic inter pretations. We identify a four-stage Holocene
comprising: (1) a continuous increase in effective precipitation (EP) from the
beginning of the Holocene to about 5000 BP; (2) a mid-Holocene EP maximum from
about 5... hiện toàn bộ
Fire ecology north and south of the Alps since the last ice age Tập 15 Số 8 - Trang 1214-1226 - 2005
Willy Tinner, Marco Conedera, Brigitta Ammann, André F. Lotter
Wildfires are very rare in central Europe, which is probably why fire effects on
vegetation have been neglected by most central European ecologists and
palaeoecologists. Presently, reconstructions of fire history and fire ecology
are almost absent. We analysed sediment cores from lakes on the Swiss Plateau
(Lobsigensee and Soppensee) for pollen and charcoal to investigate the
relationship between ... hiện toàn bộ
A new estimate of the Holocene lowstand level of Lake Titicaca, central Andes, and implications for tropical palaeohydrology Tập 10 Số 1 - Trang 21-32 - 2000
Scott Cross, Paul A. Baker, Geoffrey O. Seltzer, Sherilyn C. Fritz, Robert B. Dunbar
New evidence from piston cores and high-resolution seismic reflection data shows
that water levels in Lake Titicaca were as much as 100 m below the present level
during the early to mid-Holocene (between .6 and 3.8 14C kyr BP). Climatological
and modelling studies indicate that Lake Titicaca rainfall depends on convective
activity in upwind Amazonia; the lake-level data therefore suggest a drier

Early wheat in China: Results from new studies at Donghuishan in the Hexi Corridor Tập 20 Số 6 - Trang 955-965 - 2010
Rowan K. Flad, Shuicheng Li, Xiaohong Wu, Zhijun Zhao
The earliest direct dates of wheat in East Asia come from Donghuishan in Gansu
Province, China. Few other dates of wheat in East Asia are direct dates. The
previous direct dates at Donghuishan were obtained from wheat without secure
context. New samples were taken from a stratigraphic profile at Donghuishan and
directly dated. The wheat remains are earlier than any other directly dated
wheat east ... hiện toàn bộ
