PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to optimize the downrange for hypersonic boost‐glide (HBG) missile under near‐real condition, and to validate the suitability of proposed wall cooling materials.Design/methodology/approachThe tr...... hiện toàn bộ
The mechanism of stress formation in glass under‐going conditions of rapid cooling, and the factors affecting the properties of the toughened glass produced are discussed. The application of techniques for measuring the temperature of glass, to the control and study of the toughening process are described.
A Description of the Origins of the Short SC.5 Belfast Strategic Freighter and its Preliminary Design. THE Belfast C, Mk. 1 is a large and important aircraft by any standards—both to Short Brothers and Harland Ltd. and to the Royal Air Force. Indeed it is the second largest aircraft in production in Europe—only conceding pride of place to the Vicker...... hiện toàn bộ
FOR aerofoils intended for use at high speeds, it is evident that the maximum lift on the back, consistent with a given maximum intensity of suction, will be attained when the suction, and hence the velocity, over the back is uniform; in other words, for a given mean lift on the back, the greatest suction will be a minimum, and so will the greatest velocity. On the hypothesis that compress...... hiện toàn bộ
EPOXY void fillers are low density materials capable of resisting compressive loads. With densities of from 0.45 to 0.75 depending on the grade they do not offer a weight penalty in the structure. Void fillers are used in both structural and non‐structural applications in aircraft to reinforce certain areas of honeycomb against compressive load.
Mr Ted Bray has recently been appointed as quality assurance manager for Ion Deposition Ltd of Corby, who operate the specialist vacuum deposition coating service for the aerospace, defence, automotive and general engineering industries.
THE following notes, principally for the use of ground engineers, refer to the super‐charging of the four‐stroke cycle petrol engine; two‐stroke cycle engines and compression ignition engines are not here dealt with.

IN very high performance aircraft—that is aircraft flying at high speeds and high altitudes—the thermal problems confronting the mechanical engineer are becoming progressively more and more severe. Atmospheric Temperature ranges of upwards of 100 deg. C combined with thermodynamic effects due to the high speeds, widely varying air pressure and moisture content are encountered and very rigi...... hiện toàn bộ
