From 1983 through 1997, our center diagnosed 130 cases of benign neoplasms: 27
with focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), 25 with hepatic adenoma, 71 with cavernous
hemangioma, and seven with mixed tumors of different diagnoses. Most often these
lesions were seen in females [female-to-male ratio (f/m): 5.5/1]. Hepatic
adenomas and mixed tumors were seen exclusively in females and FNH predominantly

Management of Patients with Prosthetic Vascular Graft Infection Tập 66 Số 2 - Trang 166-177 - 2000
James M. Seeger
Management of patients with infected prosthetic vascular grafts is one of the
most difficult challenges faced by the vascular surgeon. Patients often present
with nonspecific symptoms, but delay in treatment can lead to life-threatening
sepsis and/or hemorrhage. Fortunately, prosthetic vascular graft infection is
uncommon, with the incidence varying between 1 and 6 per cent, depending on the

Article Commentary: Hemostats, Sealants, and Adhesives: A Practical Guide for the Surgeon Tập 78 Số 12 - Trang 1305-1321 - 2012
William D. Spotnitz
Hemostats, sealants, and adhesives are useful adjuncts to modern surgical
procedures. To maximize their benefit, a surgeon needs to understand the safety,
efficacy, usability, and cost of these agents. To be truly added to a surgeon's
own toolbox, the operator must also have knowledge of when and how to best use
these materials. This commentary is designed to succinctly facilitate this

Serum Lactic Acid Determines the Outcomes of CT Diagnosis of Pneumatosis of the Gastrointestinal Tract Tập 70 Số 1 - Trang 19-24 - 2004
Mary T. Hawn, Cheri L. Canon, Mark E. Lockhart, Quintín H González, Gregg Shore, Anthony Bondora, Selwyn M. Vickers
Computed tomography (CT) diagnosis of pneumatosis involving the gastrointestinal
tract can represent a broad range of clinical entities from a benign process to
ischemic bowel. The purpose of this study is to define the significance and
outcome of pneumatosis intestinalis (PI). All CT scans from 5/93 to 12/01 with
the finding of PI were reviewed. Eighty-six CT scans had the finding of PI, with

Comparison of Serum Tumor Markers for Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma and Hepatocellular Carcinoma Tập 76 Số 11 - Trang 1210-1213 - 2010
Lianyuan Tao, Lei Cai, Xiaodong He, Wei Liu, Qiang Qu
Serum tumor markers such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), carcinoembryonic antigen,
carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9, CA242, and CA50 were analyzed to evaluate their
diagnostic values in single and combined tests for distinguishing intrahepatic
cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Preoperative serum
levels of AFP, carcinoembryonic antigen, CA19-9, CA242, and CA50 were measured
in... hiện toàn bộ
Focused Examination of Sentinel Lymph Nodes Upstages Early Colorectal Carcinoma Tập 66 Số 11 - Trang 998-1003 - 2000
Tabitha E. Wood, George J. Tsioulias, Donald L. Morton, Decio M. Rangel, W. B. Hutchinson, Leland J. Foshag, Roderick R. Turner, Anton J. Bilchik
Approximately 30 per cent of patients with early colorectal carcinoma (CRC)
develop systemic disease. A subgroup of these patients may harbor occult
micrometastatic disease and might benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. We
investigated sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping and focused pathologic
examination of the SLN as a means of detecting nodal micrometastases. Between
1996 and 2000 SLN mapping was ... hiện toàn bộ
Around-the-dock Attending Radiology Coverage is Essential to Avoid Mistakes in the Care of Trauma Patients Tập 67 Số 12 - Trang 1175-1177 - 2001
George C. Velmahos, C Fili, Pantelis Vassiliu, Nicolaos Nicolaou, Randal Radin, Alison Wilcox
Financial constraints due to increasing operating cost and decreased
reimbursement do not allow many hospitals to maintain coverage by attending
radiologists around the clock (CARAC). Preliminary film readings by radiology
trainees may be inaccurate. In trauma, decisions are made fast and are often
based on these preliminary readings. To examine whether there are significant
discrepancies between ... hiện toàn bộ
Elderly Patients with Pelvic Fracture: Interventions and Outcomes Tập 75 Số 4 - Trang 291-295 - 2009
Tracey Dechert, Therèse M. Duane, Brett P. Frykberg, Michel B. Aboutanos, Ajai K. Malhotra, Rao R. Ivatury
We examined the outcome of elderly trauma patients with pelvic fractures.
Patients 65 years of age and older (elderly) with pelvic fractures were
retrospectively compared with patients younger than 65 years with pelvic
fractures and also with elderly patients without fracture. Over the study
period, 1223 patients sustained a pelvic fracture (younger than 65 years, n =
1066, 87.2%; elderly, n = 157... hiện toàn bộ
Prevalence of Delayed Hemothorax in Blunt Thoracic Trauma Tập 71 Số 6 - Trang 481-486 - 2005
Om P. Sharma, Sara Hagler, Michael F. Oswanski
Delayed hemothorax (DHTX) is rarely seen. On an 8-year retrospective analysis of
blunt thoracic trauma (BTT), hemothorax (HTX) was diagnosed in 167 patients: 18
children, 113 adults, and 36 elderly. No statistical differences were seen in
any age groups regarding Injury Severity Score (mean ISS, 30.54), critical care
length of stay (CLOS, 9.0), and hospital LOS (HLOS, 11.21). Mortality rate was
