Trên một bức tranh miniature Ấn Độ được khám phá tại Viện Nghiên cứu Đông phương Leningrad bởi Giáo sư A. Iwanow, loài Dronte được miêu tả với độ chính xác tự nhiên. Rất có khả năng bức tranh này được vẽ cho Đại Đế Mughal Jehangir vào những năm cuối của triều đại ông (1624 đến 1627) dựa trên một nguyên mẫu sống. Nguyên mẫu này có thể là một trong hai con Dronte mà nhà thám hiểm Anh Peter Mundy đã thấy sống vào tháng 9 năm 1628 tại Surat. Bức tranh Ấn Độ này có thể được coi là hình ảnh tốt nhất trong tất cả các hình ảnh đương thời về loài Dronte. Nó yêu cầu phải điều chỉnh nhiều quan niệm mà người ta đã hình thành về diện mạo của loài bồ câu khổng lồ đã tuyệt chủng này dưới sự ảnh hưởng của các bức tranh của những họa sĩ Hà Lan thế kỷ 17, đặc biệt là của Roelant Savery.
