Bài báo này tổng hợp tài liệu đã công bố đánh giá độ tin cậy và độ chính xác của các tham số tĩnh mạch chủ dưới (IVC) được đo bằng siêu âm cho việc đánh giá thể tích, cũng như những nghiên cứu mô tả sự thay đổi tiềm tàng ở các tham số này do các yếu tố khác. Một số tham số IVC, bao gồm đường kính IVC, biến đổi hô hấp theo chu kỳ, và tỷ lệ đường kính IVC/Động mạch chủ, đã được khuyến cáo để đánh giá trạng thái thể tích. Chúng đã được chứng minh là đáng tin cậy, có thể lặp lại và có mối quan hệ tốt với các chỉ số khác của trạng thái thể tích. Tuy nhiên, kích thước cơ thể, trạng thái hô hấp, thuốc gây mê, cũng như áp lực nội thoracic và nội bụng có thể ảnh hưởng đến giá trị của chúng.
