Utilidad de la ultrasonografía endoscópica (USE) en Oncología

La ultrasonografía endoscópica (USE) combina la endoscopia con la ecografía, por lo que permite visualizar las diferentes capas de la pared del tubo digestivo y explorar un área peridigestiva de unos 6 cm alrededor del órgano explorado. Estas prestaciones hacen de ella una técnica de elección para estudiar la afectación en profundidad de las neoplasias digestivas y para el diagnóstico de extensión locorregional de estas neoplasias, así como de las neoplasias de pulmón. Este artículo pretende revisar de forma exhaustiva las indicaciones, limitaciones y rentabilidad de la USE en el manejo de las neoplasias digestivas y del carcinoma de pulmón de células no pequeñas.
