Vai trò của cytokine trong bệnh sinh của bệnh toxoplasmosis vẫn còn chưa được biết đến nhiều, đặc biệt là trong trường hợp tái hoạt động xảy ra ở những bệnh nhân suy giảm miễn dịch. Để đánh giá tầm quan trọng của yếu tố hoại tử khối u alpha (TNFα), interleukin 1 alpha (IL1 α) và interleukin 6 (IL6), chúng tôi đã nghiên cứu sự biểu hiện của ba cytokine này bởi tế bào đa hình sao người sau khi bị nhiễm ba chủng khác nhau của Toxoplasma gondii. Chủng virulent RH, chủng trung gian 76K, và chủng cystogenic Prugniaud không gây ra sự khác biệt đáng kể về mức độ biểu hiện của các mRNA cytokine khi cytokine được nghiên cứu ở 1, 3, 6, và 24 giờ sau khi nhiễm ký sinh trùng.
