Chẩn đoán ung thư tuyến tiền liệt dựa vào mô học. Biopsy tuyến tiền liệt được tiến hành dựa trên ba yếu tố chính: kháng nguyên đặc hiệu tuyến tiền liệt (PSA), kiểm tra trực tràng bằng tay (DRE) và siêu âm qua trực tràng. Do những ca biopsy tuyến tiền liệt vẫn có tỷ lệ lớn kết quả âm tính, việc lựa chọn bệnh nhân và định hướng lấy mẫu cần được cải thiện. Bài báo này mô tả những cải tiến gần đây trong chẩn đoán ung thư tuyến tiền liệt bằng hình ảnh, đặc biệt là siêu âm qua trực tràng tăng cường cản quang.
