Việc ứng dụng công nghệ nano kết hợp với các khoa học hóa học đang gia tăng liên tục trong việc quản lý các bệnh lý. Các đặc tính vật lý - hóa học và dược lý của thuốc được cải thiện nhờ vào việc áp dụng các nguyên lý công nghệ nano. Nhiều chế phẩm dựa trên công nghệ nano đang được nghiên cứu nhằm cải thiện sự tuân thủ của bệnh nhân. Một trong những hệ thống vận chuyển nano mới là transfersome (TFS) được cấu thành từ các phospholipid tương thích sinh học tự nhiên và các chất kích hoạt bờ. Về mặt hình thái, TFS tương tự như liposome nhưng về mặt chức năng, đây là các bọng siêu biến dạng có khả năng di chuyển qua các lỗ nhỏ hơn kích thước của chúng. Nhờ vào tính đa dạng của chúng, TFS có tiềm năng vận chuyển thuốc qua các màng sinh học nhạy cảm, đặc biệt là hàng rào máu - não, các lớp da, và biểu mô mũi. Các loại thuốc có trọng lượng phân tử khác nhau có thể được chuyển vào trong tế bào bằng cách bao gồm chúng vào TFS. Nhận thức rõ tiềm năng khổng lồ của TFS, công trình hiện tại cung cấp một cái nhìn sâu sắc và chi tiết (các đặc tính dược phẩm và tiền lâm sàng) về TFS kết hợp với các loại hợp chất điều trị khác nhau (chống tiểu đường, chống viêm, chống ung thư, chống virus, chống nấm, chống oxi hóa, thuốc tim mạch, thuốc tác động lên hệ thần kinh trung ương, vận chuyển vắc-xin và các ứng dụng khác). Nó cũng bao gồm thông tin về các phương pháp chuẩn bị được áp dụng, ý nghĩa của các tá dược được sử dụng trong quá trình chuẩn bị, tóm tắt các cuộc điều tra lâm sàng đã thực hiện, chi tiết về quyền sở hữu trí tuệ, các cuộc điều tra mới nhất, các con đường sử dụng, thách thức và sự tiến bộ trong tương lai liên quan đến TFS.
