Hồ sơ đầu tiên về Ganoderma có thể được truy nguyên từ Dược điển do các nhà khoa học Trung Quốc viết vào thế kỷ thứ nhất trước Công nguyên. Một số loài Ganoderma được biết đến với tên gọi là nấm "thối trắng", gây ra hiện tượng hiển thị xenluloza trắng trên gỗ bằng cách phân hủy thành phần lignin. Ganoderma boninense là tác nhân chính gây bệnh thối gốc (BSR), là một vấn đề dai dẳng trong việc trồng cây cọ dầu (Elaeis guineensis, Jacq.) cần được kiểm soát.
