Towards an analysis of Notker Labeo's Old High German

One classic exception to this is theAlthochdeutsche Glossenwörterbuch (1ff. Heidelberg: Winter, 1971ff.) by Taylor Starck and J.C. Wells: here the amount of material (a total of 140,000 entries) was certainly extensive enough to justify the use of the computer.

De interpretatione is preserved in the Codex St. Gall 818, 11th century, pp. 143–246;De nuptiis is taken from St. Gall 872, 11th century, pp. 4–170.

Notker'sPsalms are preserved in two separate and distinct traditions: 1. a comparatively late (12th century) but strong Alemannic tradition showing already some distinctly MHG forms. The text is found in the Codex St. Gall 21, 12 century, pp. 8–574, originally from the monastery of Einsiedeln. There are also numerous fragments of varying length; 2. an older Bavarian tradition (11th century) which is not only written in a different dialect but is also much changed in its textual form.
