Tám mươi nam sinh viên đại học đã được thực hiện phỏng vấn trạng thái bản sắc mở rộng, bao gồm hai lĩnh vực mới về quan hệ giao tiếp-người khác, "quan điểm về sự thể hiện tình dục" và "niềm tin về giới tính." Đóng góp tương đối của các lĩnh vực nội dung mới cũng như ba lĩnh vực tiêu chuẩn (nghề nghiệp, tôn giáo và chính trị) vào trạng thái bản sắc tổng thể đã được đánh giá bằng cách ghi nhận mức độ tương ứng. Trạng thái bản sắc trong từng lĩnh vực nội dung cũng đã được so sánh với hiệu suất trên biến phụ thuộc về độ phức tạp nhận thức. Ý thức hệ đã đóng góp nhiều hơn nghề nghiệp về cả việc đánh giá trạng thái tổng thể cũng như sự phân biệt trên biến phụ thuộc.
