Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu này là xác định cách các yếu tố nội tại cá nhân đối với một vấn đề thiết kế liên quan đến tính mới mẻ và tính tuần hoàn. Hiểu biết sâu sắc hơn về mối quan hệ này sẽ là một hỗ trợ quý giá khi đưa ra lựa chọn phù hợp cho các nhóm thiết kế. Các yếu tố được nghiên cứu bao gồm mức độ động lực của nhà thiết kế, sự liên quan, kiến thức và sự đồng cảm liên quan đến vấn đề thiết kế. Để đạt được điều này, một nghiên cứu đã được thực hiện với 35 nhà thiết kế mới vào nghề, được tổ chức thành các nhóm từ hai đến năm thành viên. Mỗi nhóm phải đề xuất một giải pháp khái niệm cho hai vấn đề thiết kế khác nhau. Tính mới mẻ được đánh giá bằng mô hình nguyên nhân SAPPhIRE (viết tắt của State–Action–Part–Phenomenon–Input–oRgan–Effect) và Bộ Công cụ Kinh tế Tuần hoàn được áp dụng để đo lường tính tuần hoàn. Kết quả cho thấy rằng khi động lực, mức độ kiến thức, nhận thức về sự liên quan và sự đồng cảm với vấn đề tăng lên, thì giải pháp hiển thị tính mới mẻ lớn hơn và tính tuần hoàn ít hơn, mặc dù đối với tính tuần hoàn, sự khác biệt này không có ý nghĩa thống kê.
