The history of World Surface Coatings Abstracts, the paint industry’s pioneering abstracts journal

The story of World Surface Coatings Abstracts (WSCA) from its inception in 1928 as ‘Review of Current Literature relating to the Paint, Colour, Varnish and Allied Industries’ to the present day is described. Changes in production methods over the years are highlighted, with major changes having occurred since computerisation in 1976. Developments in relation to indexes, on-line, CD-ROM, and other formats are described. Coverage of the journal, which ranges from raw materials, through coatings types and properties, to health and safety regulations, business information etc, is also indicated, and examples are provided of topics appearing in the earlier years.
