Tác động của thuốc chẹn beta (β) đối với độ chính xác, đặc biệt là độ nhạy, của hình ảnh tưới máu cơ tim bằng đồng vị phóng xạ (MPI) do vasodilator không hoàn toàn rõ ràng. Nghiên cứu này nhằm đánh giá thêm tác động của β-blockers đến khả năng của MPI trong việc xác định bệnh động mạch vành (CAD) đáng kể và có nguy cơ cao. Đối với 555 bệnh nhân đã trải qua MPI do vasodilator và đã thực hiện chụp động mạch vành trong vòng 90 ngày, độ nhạy và độ đặc hiệu toàn cầu cũng như theo từng mạch đã được tính toán và cho thấy tương tự giữa nhóm bệnh nhân dùng β-blockers và nhóm không dùng. Thuốc chẹn beta không làm giảm khả năng phát hiện bệnh nhân mắc bệnh đa mạch. Các chỉ số căng thẳng tổng hợp và chỉ số nghỉ tổng hợp cũng tương tự ở cả hai nhóm. Để phần nào xem xét thiên lệch vạch catheter và khả năng xảy ra kết quả âm tính giả trong các nghiên cứu MPI của bệnh nhân sử dụng thuốc chẹn beta, phân tích sống sót đã được thực hiện trên 2646 bệnh nhân có nghiên cứu MPI bình thường không trải qua catheter tim và không cho thấy sự khác biệt về tỷ lệ tử vong có liên quan đến việc sử dụng thuốc chẹn beta. Điều trị bằng thuốc chẹn beta không làm giảm khả năng phát hiện CAD lâm sàng quan trọng của MPI căng thẳng bằng vasodilator, cũng như không che giấu nguy cơ tử vong của bệnh nhân có nghiên cứu bình thường không được chỉ định catheter hóa.
