Chúng tôi phát triển một mô hình lý thuyết đơn giản để chứng minh rằng tác động phúc lợi của bảo hiểm về cơ bản là mơ hồ—ngay cả khi không có chi phí giao dịch hay rủi ro cơ sở. Tính chất thứ hai tốt hơn của bối cảnh thể chế mà các hộ nông dân nhỏ hoạt động cho thấy rằng việc áp dụng bảo hiểm có thể làm tăng cường các thiếu sót tồn tại trước đó. Ý tưởng này được trình bày chi tiết cho trường hợp chăn nuôi gia súc trên đất chăn thả chung.
