Việc sử dụng vật liệu thực vật bản địa để xây dựng bẫy hình nón đôi nhằm kiểm soát ruồi ngựa được mô tả trong nghiên cứu này. Kết quả sơ bộ từ các thử nghiệm thực địa cho thấy các bẫy được làm hoàn toàn từ vật liệu địa phương hoạt động gần như tương đương với thiết kế tiêu chuẩn. Nghiên cứu hướng tới việc khuyến khích xây dựng và sử dụng các bẫy này trên cơ sở tự lực cộng đồng ở những vùng mắc bệnh ngủ ở Uganda.
